I am a divorced parent.  My former husband and I engaged in shared parenting for many years.  We were quite successful in this endeavor and this past year we walked our daughter down the wedding aisle together.  I think many divorcing parents have this dream - of being able to go to their child's wedding and celebrate with the former spouse.

I firmly believe that families should stay out of the family law courtroom.  I litigated family law cases for many years and came to the conclusion that litigation is extremely destructive and very expensive.  I have focused my skills in the area of negotiation so that I can provide a process for the client that does not involve a trial.

I know that it is possible to have a "good divorce."  The breakup of a marriage is a terrible event.  It causes turmoil for everyone inolved.  But if the parties want to have a peaceful relationship after the divorce, they need to embrace non-litigious ways to terminate the marriage.

I believe in the assistance of therapists and financial consultants when needed.  A good therapist can assist in finding out what is best for the kids.  An experienced financial consultant can help the parties analyze their finances and construct a settlement that looks to the future.

It is hard to pick up the pieces after the termination of one's marriage.  But it is possible and life goes on.  If the parties conduct the divorce process in a civilized manner and engage lawyers who support this, then they can have the "good divorce."
